No consistent diversity patterns in terrestrial mammal assemblages along rural-urban forest gradients

چکیده
Abstract Urbanization is increasing worldwide, fragmenting, isolating or destroying native habitats with a subsequent loss of biodiversity, structural and compositional changes biotic communities weakening the functioning biological processes ecosystem services. In urban ecosystems, terrestrial mammals provide important functions services, but we do not have synthesis impacts urbanization on mammals. Terrestrial are vulnerable to habitat modification caused by urbanization, thus hypothesised that abundance diversity would decrease as progresses. addition, due declining number predators decreasing predation pressure in habitats, assumed herbivore omnivore gain dominance. To clarify inconsistency previous studies mammals, synthetized re-evaluated published results meta-analysis. Based 50 rural-urban comparisons, were significantly more abundant diverse rural than habitats. This was only found at community level, also level taxonomic groups (carnivores, marsupials, rodents), feeding habit (carnivorous, herbivorous omnivorous species) their interactions. Our suggest studied urban-dwelling mammal species probably well adapted environmental conditions pressures accompanied via individual-level adaptation.

Distribution of Wild Mammal Assemblages along an Urban–Rural–Forest Landscape Gradient in Warm-Temperate East Asia
Urbanization may alter mammal assemblages via habitat loss, food subsidies, and other factors related to human activities. The general distribution patterns of wild mammal assemblages along urban-rural-forest landscape gradients have not been studied, although many studies have focused on a single species or taxon, such as rodents. We quantitatively evaluated the effects of the urban-rural-fore...
متن کاملDiversity of terrestrial mammal seed dispersers along a lowland Amazon forest regrowth gradient
There is increasing interest in the restoration/regeneration of degraded tropical habitats yet the potential role of natural regenerators remains unclear. We test the hypothesis that the richness and functional diversity of terrestrial mammals differs between forest regrowth stages. We quantified the richness and functional diversity of eight terrestrial mammal seed-disperser species across a f...
متن کاملVegetation composition and structure of forest patches along urban - rural gradients
The urban landscape is highly altered by human activities and is a mosaic of different land covers and land uses. Imbedded in this are forest patches of different origins (Zipperer et al .• 1997). How these patches influence and are influenced by the urban landscape is of ecological importance when managing the urban forest for ecosystem goods and services. To evaluate how forests respond to al...
متن کاملDisentangling Diversity Patterns in Sandy Beaches along Environmental Gradients
Species richness in sandy beaches is strongly affected by concurrent variations in morphodynamics and salinity. However, as in other ecosystems, different groups of species may exhibit contrasting patterns in response to these environmental variables, which would be obscured if only aggregate richness is considered. Deconstructing biodiversity, i.e. considering richness patterns separately for ...
متن کاملHistorical processes enhance patterns of diversity along latitudinal gradients.
One of the more vexing issues in ecology is how historical processes affect contemporary patterns of biodiversity. Accordingly, few models have been presented. Two corollary models (centre of origin, time-for-speciation) can be used to make quantitative predictions characterizing the tropical niche conservatism hypothesis and describe diversification as diffusion and subsequent cladogenesis of ...
